Events of the Kodiak Crab Festival II

There are so many events during the Kodiak Crab Festival that you can either attend or join! If you read my previous blog post, you would have read about 3 events that go on during the Festival—the Community Scavenger Hunt, the Crab Festival Grand Parade, and the Coast Guard Search & Rescue Demonstration. Here are a few more events and a few things to expect at the Kodiak Crab Festival.

The Norm Holm Memorial Survival Suit Race is an exciting event that I, personally, love to watch. You can also join it, but, you would need to make sure that you can provide your own survival suit and a team. Starting at the top of the loading ramp, the team must race down to the bottom, jump into their survival suit as quickly as possible and, as a team, swim to safety. All team members must be inside the survival raft in order for the timer to stop. The onlookers seem to love it as they cheer for the teams that they want to win. It is an overall high adrenaline event.

If you are looking for more adult entertainment, then you’re in luck! There are a few places that are offering events that are for adults only. One event will be held at Tony’s Bar, which is the Lion’s Arm Wrestling Championships. Grab a drink from the bar and watch at the men & women face off in the tournament that will crown Kodiak’s King & Queen of arm wrestling. The space will be a little tight but the televisions around the bar will be showing the arm wrestling as well. There will be an entry fee with proceeds going to Lion’s Charity. THIS event is the HIGHEST adrenaline activity at the Crab Festival.

If you’re not interested in any of the events, there are other things that you can do at the Crab Fest. If you’re like me, you might be just as excited about the food as you are the events. There will be booths that sell food items like the Bruin Burgers, Dough Buoys, Deep-fried Twinkies, KING CRAB and more! There will also be some ethnic food sold there as well. If you’re not as excited about the food as I am, there are also booths selling items like clothing, henna tattoos and even hand crafted pieces of art. There will also be rides and carnival games available if you haven’t purchased your Crab Fest tickets yet.

I hope that you enjoy your time! Please, remember to take pictures! You can always send the pictures to the staff at Discover Kodiak for a chance to be featured on our Facebook page, website and even our 2017 Kodiak Island Visitors Guide!
