The Polar Bear Plunge

Written by: Posted on: December 31, 1969 at 7:00PMPosted in: Main Topic

The Polar Bear Plunge is an annual tradition in the community of Kodiak.  Early in the morning on January 1st of each new year, residents and visitors take the plunge and dive right into the cold ocean water at Mill Bay Beach.  Some dive right in for fun.  Others dive in for health benefits such as stimulating mental processes and relieving aches, pains, and stress.

If you are physically fit and in good cardiovascular health, take the plunge on New Year’s Day and dive right in to exploring our beautiful Emerald Isle!

Please call Discover Kodiak at 486-4782 or stop by the visitor’s center located at 100 Marine Way, Suite 200 to learn more about the Polar Bear Plunge or other Kodiak Island events.
