Get Ready to Fish

It won’t be too long until the sport fishing season will be underway here on Kodiak Island! While the winter months can pass slowly, it’s the perfect time to get one’s fishing gear prepared, contact one of our many fishing guides, charter boats, or wilderness lodge operations and get your Kodiak fishing adventure booked for 2014!

Kodiak Island has some of the best fishing opportunities in all of Alaska! All five species of salmon make annual runs into a variety of rivers around the island. Excellent Dolly Varden fishing and respectable Steelhead Trout fishing can also be enjoyed in many of the same locations. While some of these areas are in the more remote regions of Kodiak where one can enjoy both tremendous serenity and fantastic fishing at the same time, other popular fishing spots are located along Kodiak’s road system. While there is great, easily accessible fishing on the road system rivers, there is also much less of the intense, shoulder to shoulder “combat fishing” that other parts of Alaska are known for during peak salmon runs.

Along with incredible freshwater fishing opportunities in Kodiak’s beautiful river and streams, offshore opportunities abound as well! Halibut, rockfish, cod, salmon, and a variety of other fish can all be pursued on the beautiful waters of Kodiak Island.

No matter if one chooses to fish locally, wild and remote, saltwater or freshwater, one can expect to experience the adventure of a lifetime while in Kodiak. It is indeed Alaska at its finest…untamed!
