After the Kodiak Area Native Association proposed several heritage programs to promote the Alutiiq heritage, they decided to build the Alutiiq Museum to help preserve the heritage & traditions of the natives on Kodiak Island.  The Alutiiq Museum is a definite must see during your stay on Kodiak Island. It is a unique museum that you will not find anywhere else in Alaska. Look back 7,500 years into the Alutiiq heritage, discover history, explore the ancient artifacts and grasp at how the traditions continue today. You can study how the indigenous people of Kodiak survived thousands of years ago and also look into the Alutiiq/Native art that decorate the walls of the museum. If you decide you like something, you can purchase a souvenir at the gift shop they have located inside.

They are generally open from Tuesday to Saturday except for holidays.
