Dear Kodi...

Dear Kodi:

I will be arriving in Kodiak this summer and I am extremely excited. I am most excited about seeing some Kodiak Brown Bears in the rivers or a mother bear teaching a few cubs how to fish. I will have my own vehicle and will be driving up and down the road system with our free time. Where is the best place to see some bears?

Dear Extremely Excited:

There are many precautionary measures you must take in order to see some Kodiak Brown Bears. First off, I would recommend hiring a tour guide to take you out to go bear viewing. Your guide will most likely take you exactly where the bears are and will absolutely know what to do in case of an emergency. I would also recommend going on a scenic bear viewing trip with a local charter place operator so plan ahead! You will be taking a float plane and flying over the scenic Kodiak Island Wildlife Refuge to either Frazier Lake or the Katmai Coast (depending on where the bears are at that time) and hike around bears. Your guide will even teach you some "bear language" while you watch in awe. It is a 5 hour trip and it is well worth it! I highly recommend it!
