DEAR KODI: I will be in Kodiak for 4 days. I am very excited to go sightseeing and possibly hike a mountain. Should I rent a car? –Licensed To Drive

DEAR LICENSED: If you decide to rent a car you will be able to drive around town on your own, which is nice. You will be able to take your time to find any landmarks you may be interested in and be able to cruise down the road. If you decide to go hiking, a lot of our areas that you can hike are easiest to get to with your own vehicle. You can even get up and take that 5 minute drive to the grocery store located across town. Some of our operators don't offer pick up services so having your own vehicle will be a plus if you need to get somewhere at a certain time to meet an operator.

If you decide to not rent a car and use a tour guide it is still a fantastic choice. Even though you won't be able to drive around on your own your tour guide will help lead you around the road system. Anything that you will want to know about, and probably will be most interested in, will be pointed out by the operator and he/she will be able to give you some background information about what you are looking at. Your guide will be able to take you wherever you want to go.
