Thinking of a family vacation? Discover Kodiak! The winning combination of culture, coastline and kid-friendly activities make Kodiak a great destination for the whole family. We have just the right ingredients with beaches and friendly people. Kodiak offers family hiking, beaching activities, and community events that will make your adventure an ever lasting memory.

With over 900 miles of coastline, you are sure to get in some good tide pooling, paddle boarding, beach combing or wave surfing with your children. Many places in town provide gear, and even guided tide-pooling to narrate all the great creatures you are finding.  "Ooh's" and "ahh's" fill the air every with every handful picked out. Beach combing allows for great colored glass or seashell souvenirs. The Fisheries Touch Tank Center offers the handling of intertidal organisms that frequent the Kodiak waters. Kodiak staff regularly collect a variety of species from waters around Kodiak Island to display in the aquarium and touch tank areas. Often times these include varieties of crabs, octopus, snails, seastars, and fish.

The Wildlife Refuge hosts events such as children's activities called F.U.N. Programs (Families Understanding Nature), school programs, interpretive talks and community events. Kodiak Refuge strives to educate and inform the public about wildlife and our natural resources. These events most times include crafts and videos. Kodiak also hosts many family friendly events such as Crab Festival and Whale Fest. Bring your cameras and come enjoy our rides, food, and  saw dust pile. Your child can earn money and play at the same time!

Interested in the family taking a sail boating tour of the island, or a  bear viewing flight together? We have those options available too!

Sometimes a great time can be as simple as finding a flat rock from one of our many beaches and painting it with your version of Kodiak. Your children will one day look back and appreciate the opportunity to have seen this amazing place, and perhaps even be inspired to take their own children there, too.
